The Software Quality Laboratory is part of the Computing Institute, of the Center of Technological and Exact Sciences. It was created in 2000, on April, with the purpose to offer resources to the software development companies (specially small and medium companies) to improve the quality of their processes and products. The main activities of the Software Quality Lab are: (i) training, with open and in-company courses - there are 45 courses about Software Quality that can be offered; (ii) consultancy; (iii) organization of business trips - in 2000, to USA, to visit SEI/CMU and some companies working with CMM, and in 2001, to Spain, to visit ESI, where the participants have attended two courses, participated of a Berrikuntza Workshop and visited some companies of Zamudio; (iv) research projects, related to SPI; (v) evaluation of the quality of software systems, based on ISO norms of product quality and (vi) testing of software systems, based on a test methodology that was developed at the Lab. The Lab also coordinates projects such as "Towards CMM" (during 2001), with the participation of 9 Brazilian companies, whose main pupose was to implement the KPAs of CMM level 2 to their organizations. This project was composed by 288 hours of training and almost 800 hours of consultancy. The main areas of the activities of the Software Quality Lab are: CMM, software testing and software metrics.
