The Internet as we know it today is experiencing a major transformation. While interactivity and collaboration in Internet is increasing, mobility is emerging as a key societal requirement. More than ever, an increasing number of businesses and services are moving online: transport, health, energy & environment, oil & gas, banking, entertainment, etc.
However, current Internet technologies and architectures are deemed to be insufficient to support this (r)evolution and require a major overhaul. This overhaul must give answers and provide solutions to the growing demand – more than 1 billion people are using the Internet today and this number is steadily increasing – and the fact that internet has become a critical infrastructure that is the basis for many businesses and influencing our lives in a previously unknown way.
Large efforts are undertaken worldwide and particularly driven by European policy makers, to develop what has been coined as the “Future Internet”. ESI-Tecnalia is contributing to these efforts through participation in relevant interest and lobby groups and by performing research on Future Internet technologies, solutions and applications.
During the Week@ESI, the institute will dedicate a half day event to these issues, with the objective of presenting the work ESI is carrying out to this respect and obtaining feedback, impressions and initial requirements concerning the Future Internet from business and collaboration partners.
The event is targeted to representatives of companies from industry sectors such as transport, health, energy & environment, oil & gas, banking, entertainment and public administrations.
Participants will receive first hand information on the activities carried out at European and International level concerning Future Internet, how this new paradigm will likely affect their businesses in the future and have the opportunity to contribute their views on this development and express their particular requirements to this respect.
The event will take place on June 2nd 2009 from 15:00 to 19:30h at ESI’s premises in Zamudio, Spain.
The event will be held in English language.
